The University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey program is holding open tryouts, beginning August 26th with fitness testing, for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The Bears kick off their 100th season of play in early September with pre-season action, and then begin Canada West regular season play on September 28th at home against the Manitoba Bisons.

The open tryouts are for all male hockey players who have played at least at a midget ‘AAA’ level, or higher, and are enrolled at the U of A for the 2012-13 academic year.

Head coach Ian Herbers, who coached in the AHL, and as a player won championships with the Golden Bears (1992), the Cape Breton Oilers (1993) and the Detroit Vipers (1997), is encouraging all hockey players who meet the criteria, and are interested in attending the open tryout to email their hockey resumes and contact info to iherbers@ualberta.ca. Players who meet the criteria will be contacted by coach Herbers before August 20th with further information.
