Alannah Kedra is the Hudsons Athlete of the Week
University of Alberta Pandas’ hockey forward Alannah Kedra is the Hudsons Athlete of the Week, for the week ending February 19, 2012.
Kedra, who hails from Abbotsford, BC, had a stellar start to the playoffs for the No.6 ranked Pandas as she scored four goals and five points to lead Alberta to a two-game sweep of the Saskatchewan Huskies in the Canada West semi-final series in Edmonton.
The third-year Arts student has been red hot for Alberta of late, tallying four two-goal games in her last six contests, going back to the regular season, as well as 12 points over that span, including five points in the playoffs to lead the conference post-season scoring race. Prior to this season, Kedra had never scored in the conference playoffs.
In game one against the No.8 ranked Huskies, Kedra and the Pandas had to storm back from a 2-1 third period deficit for the win. She notched the game winner on the power-play at 3:59 of the third, and then added the insurance marker less than 90 seconds later.
On Saturday, she scored the game’s opening goal as Alberta raced out to a 2-0 lead, and then a 4-1 advantage, before eventually winning 5-2. Kedra assisted on the Pandas’ second goal, and then notched the 4-2 goal to pace Alberta to the game two, and series-clinching, win.
Alberta will now face the No.3 ranked Calgary Dinos in the Canada West best-of-three championship series next weekend in Calgary.
